He Shall Rise … with Healing in His Wings

Book of Mormon Videos https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/videos-and-images/book-of-mormon-videos?lang=eng

Acts 4:33 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

How can I witness with power? They knew the mortal Messiah and the Resurrected Lord. But, it was the Holy Ghost that gave them their conviction, testimony, and power. How is the Lord’s grace upon you?

These men were witnesses in the lands of Israel. There were further witnesses in the Americas. These disciples knew of the mortal Messiah’s birth, and witnessed the signs of His death and resurrection; and soon, they were also permitted to see the Lord in person.

On the title page of the Book of Mormon, we read that The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ stands as an additional witness to the Bible that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world; and that He manifests Himself to all nations, and those that come unto Him will be saved.

Jacob 4:3–4 Many prophets in The Book of Mormon, who looked forward to the coming of Christ, testified of Him to let us know that they knew of Christ and had a hope of His glory.

The Savior’s grace is for everyone. His power is both universal and individual. He is the Savior of the world, and He is my personal Savior. The Holy Ghost can witness this to all who humbly study the accounts of apostles and prophets in The Book of Mormon and in the Bible.

Because of Jesus Christ, I will be resurrected.

At Easter it’s traditional to ponder the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Do we understand what the resurrection is and what a great gift it is to all of us? Do we ponder this more than once a year? Do we reflect on this each week as we partake of the sacrament?

List some of the truths that you find about the resurrection in the following Book of Mormon verses:

2 Nephi 9:6–15, 22

1.      Because of the Fall, death entered into the world and we will all die.

2.      We need a Savior to help us overcome the effects of a fallen world, to save us from sin and from death.

3.      Because this needed to be an infinite atonement, it was necessary to have an Infinite Being, even Jesus Christ, provide it.

4.      Heavenly Father knew that we needed the gift of His Son to help us get back to heaven and again be in His presence.

5.      Without the Savior, we would have become subjects to the devil.

6.      Because of the atonement, we can be clean through the blood of Christ, so that we can live by the Spirit, and we will be resurrected, so that we can live forever.

7.      Judgment follows the resurrection.

Alma 11:42–45

8.      The death of Christ loosed the bands of temporal death.

9.      Everyone will be raised from temporal death.

10.   We will have the same body and the same memories when we are resurrected.

11.   We will stand before God, and have a bright recollection of our guilt or of our righteousness.

12.   The restoration of our spirits and our bodies in the resurrection will have to everyone born on this earth.

13.   We all will be brought to stand before Jesus, Heavenly Father, and the Holy Ghost to be judged according to our works.

14.   When our spirits and our bodies reunited, we will never die; we will become spiritual and immortal, and incorruptible.

40:21–25

15.   There is a space of time between death and the resurrection.

16.   The soul shall be restored to the body and the body to the soul…proper and perfect frame

17.   Righteous will shine forth in the kingdom of God.

3 Nephi 26:4–5.

18.   All people, kindreds, nations, tongue shall stand before God to be judged of the works.

19.   If our works have been good, we’ll go to the resurrection of life.

20.   If they’ve been evil, the resurrection of damnation.

21.   They are on a parallel, which means they’ll never cross.

How do these truths influence your actions and the way that you live?

Easter videos

The literal resurrection of Jesus Christ, the joining of His Spirit and His Body, is testified of multiple times throughout the Bible and The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

Luke 24:36–43: Jesus, as a resurrected Being, appeared to His apostles. He visited with them, comforted them, and ate with them. (We have this opportunity each time we partake of the sacrament.)

Vs 36 Peace be unto you.
38 Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Acts 24:15 “And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.”

1 Corinthians 15:12–23 If we don’t believe in the resurrection, we really do not belief in the Living Christ.

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

Easter Hosanna  https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/childrens-songbook/easter-hosanna?lang=eng

1.The prophecies of long ago were now at last fulfilled,

When Jesus, risen from the dead, to man Himself revealed.

As he came down from heav’n above, white-robed and glorified,

The people of the promised land received their Lord and cried:

“Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God!

Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God!”

2.When Jesus Christ appeared to Nephites in the promised land,

The righteous people saw his wounds and came to understand

That he, once dead, was risen up as Savior, Lord, and King.

As they rejoiced, now we rejoice, and joyfully we sing:

“Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God!

Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God!”

Book of Mormon Stories https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/childrens-songbook/book-of-mormon-stories?lang=eng
 Last verse:

After Christ was crucified and died for you and me,

He came forth to teach the truth to all who would be free.

Hands were laid upon each child. He blessed them tenderly,

And they lived in the land righteously.

Words and music: Elizabeth Fetzer Bates, Optional verses: Nancy K. Daines Carter,

3 Nephi 11:14–15 How do you think you would have felt to touch the Lord’s hands, feet, and side, where He had been wounded?

3 Nephi 17:21 How do you think you would have felt to be one of the children that He blessed?

21 And when he had said these words, he wept, and the multitude bare record of it, and he took their little children, one by one, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them.

I am so thankful to know how much Jesus love little children. I am so thankful to feel how much He loves me. I am thankful that He would suffer for me and die for me, so that I won’t have to suffer so much and so that I can live again forever. Because He was resurrected, I will be too.

What does it mean to be resurrected?

2 Nephi 9:10–15 We won’t stay dead in our graves, but our bodies and spirits will reunite. This can only happen because of Jesus’s atonement for us and His resurrection. Because of Him, we will all be resurrected.

Alma 11:41–45 43 The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame, even as we now are at this time; and we shall be brought to stand before God…

Our bodies will be restored to our spirits perfectly, everything in its right place. Nothing will be missing, not even a hair of our head. This will happen for everyone, old, young, boy, girl, black, white; everyone. Once we are resurrected, our bodies will never die again.

Alma 40:21–23 23 The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.

What does it mean to be resurrected?

Who will be resurrected?

The resurrection makes me happy because….

Do you believe in the resurrection?

Jesus Christ took upon Himself my sins, pains, and infirmities.

The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus atoned for our sins. The understanding that we can about that in The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ is invaluable. Consider these questions as you read:

Mosiah 3:7

What did the Savior suffer? Temptations, pain of body and spirit, hunger, thirst, fatigue, more than man can suffer. The rest of us would die before we suffered that much. Blood came from every pore.

Why did He suffer? For the wickedness and abominations of His people, for all of us.

What does this mean for me? He knows my suffering because He experienced it. He can relieve my pain and carry my burdens.

 Mosiah 15:5–9

What did the Savior suffer? Temptation, mockery, scourging, being cast out, being disowned, crucifixion, being slain, fulfilling the will of His Father.

Why did He suffer? So that God could break the bands of death, to gain victory over death for all, so that the Father could give the Son power to make intercession for all of us; so He could ascend into heaven.

What does this mean for me? His bowels are filled with mercy for all of us. He has compassion for everyone. He stands between us and justice and provides mercy. He broke the bands of death so I can live forever with those I love. He took upon himself all of my (our) sins and mistakes. Because He satisfied the demands of justice, He has redeemed me (us all).

Alma 7:11–13

What did the Savior suffer? Pains, afflictions, and temptations of every kind; pains and sicknesses and sorrows, death.

Why did He suffer? So He could loose the bands of death which bind us. So He can take upon Himself the weaknesses and infirmities of His people. So His bowels would be filled with mercy and He would know how succor His people in their infirmities. So He would have the physical understanding, as well as the Spiritual, of the all the pain and suffering of everyone; so He could take upon Himself all the sins of His people and blot them out according to the power of deliverance.

What does this mean for me? I will be resurrected. He knows and feels all my pain, sadness, sorry, mistakes, anxieties, and infirmity. (Infirmity is a good word. We are all infirm, until we build upon and trust in the Rock of our Salvation, even Jesus Christ. He is our only real stability.) He has infinite love, compassion and mercy for me, and He knows what to do to ease my burdens and bring my joy and peace, and deliver me from the bands of my own insecurities. He will succor and sustain me if I turn to Him for my direction and relief. He knows my troubles of Spirit, mind, emotion, and body. He took upon Himself all of it so that He can bring me the relief He was refused. He has been given the power to deliver me.

Look for hymns that will help you appreciate the suffering, Atonement, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to help you remember Him this Easter, during the Sacrament each week, and all the days of your life. Choose some go to hymns to help you remember Him.

Look for phrases and testimony in these hymns which strengthen your understanding and love for Him.

Isaiah 53 I read and printed this. Work on memorizing.

Hebrews 4:14–16
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

A Living Witness of the Living Christ

For kids:

Jesus Christ knows how to comfort me.

Jesus loves us so much that He was willing to suffer for us so that we don’t have to suffer so much.

Mosiah 3:7 “And lo, he shall suffer temptations, and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death; for behold, blood cometh from every pore, so great shall be his anguish for the wickedness and the abominations of his people.”

Alma 7:11 “And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.”

How does it make you feel to know that Jesus suffered so much?

Are you happy that He would do that for you, so that He can comfort and help you?

Let’s read why He did this for us. It’s an important gift!

Alma 7:12 “And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.”

He felt all our pains, sorrow, and sicknesses, so that He can comfort us through anything.

Sing a song about Jesus and the Atonement with them.

Did Jesus really live again? https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/media/music/songs/did-jesus-really-live-again?lang=eng

Did Jesus really live again?

Yes, when the third day came,

He wakened and he left the tomb;

He called Mary’s name.

Did Jesus come to those he loved?

Yes, people touched his feet,

And of the fish and honeycomb

He did truly eat.

And there were nail-prints in his hands

And a spear wound in his side.

Did Jesus really live again

After he had died?

Oh yes! And so shall I!

Bear testimony about the comfort and peace the Spirit brings to you concerning the life, mission, atonement, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Tell the children why you love Him so much.

Jesus Christ can cleanse me and help perfect me.

How does The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ represent an account of people whose lives were changed through the Atonement of Jesus Christ?

Mosiah 5:1–2 King Benjamin’s People:
Vs 2 “Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.”

Mosiah 27:8–28 Alma the Younger and the sons of King Mosiah:

Vs 14 Behold, the Lord hath heard the prayers of his people, and also the prayers of his servant, Alma, who is thy father; for he has prayed with much faith concerning thee that thou mightest be brought to the knowledge of the truth; therefore, for this purpose have I come to convince thee of the power and authority of God, that the prayers of his servants might be answered according to their faith….
Vs 16 Now I say unto thee: Go, and remember the captivity of thy fathers in the land of Helam, and in the land of Nephi; and remember how great things he has done for them; for they were in bondage, and he has delivered them. And now I say unto thee, Alma, go thy way, and seek to destroy the church no more, that their prayers may be answered, and this even if thou wilt of thyself be cast off.

Alma 15:3–12 Zeezrom repents:

Vs 5 They found him upon his bed, sick, being very low with a burning fever; and his mind also was exceedingly sore because of his iniquities; and when he saw them he stretched forth his hand, and besought them that they would heal him.

Vs 7-11

7 And he answered and said: Yea, I believe all the words that thou hast taught.
8 And Alma said: If thou believest in the redemption of Christ thou canst be healed.
9 And he said: Yea, I believe according to thy words.
10 And then Alma cried unto the Lord, saying: O Lord our God, have mercy on this man, and heal him according to his faith which is in Christ.
11 And when Alma had said these words, Zeezrom leaped upon his feet…

Vs 12 And Alma baptized Zeezrom unto the Lord; and he began from that time forth to preach unto the people.

Alma 24:7–19 King Lamoni’s Father:

Vs 7 I thank my God, my beloved people, that our great God has in goodness sent these our brethren, the Nephites, unto us to preach unto us….
Vs 8 I thank my great God that he has given us a portion of his Spirit to soften our hearts, that we have opened a correspondence with these brethren, the Nephites…
Vs 9
I also thank my God, that by opening this correspondence we have been convinced of our sins, and of the many murders which we have committed….
V 10 I also thank my God, yea, my great God, that he hath granted unto us that we might repent of these things, and also that he hath forgiven us of those our many sins and murders which we have committed, and taken away the guilt from our hearts, through the merits of his Son.

Because of the Lamanites humility, Faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, and forgiveness, they buried their weapons of war and vowed to never to the life of any person again.

So many people’s lives have been changed through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How has your life been changed?
Do you believe that Jesus can change your heart, save, and redeem you?

For kids:

Jesus Christ can cleanse me and help me change.

We can learn about people whose lives were changed through Jesus Christ.

One of those people is Jacob’s son, Enos.

Enos 1:2–8

And my soul hungered; and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens.
And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.
And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away.
And I said: Lord, how is it done?
And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen.

Mosiah 27:8–24 Alma the Younger

How were these people changed through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, faith in Him, and repentance?

How can we follow their example? We need to be willing to pray, to listen to the Spirit, and then make changes in our lives.

How do you make dirty things clean? Have you every helped your mom or dad or teacher clean up a mess? Maybe there was mud on the floor, or you spilled some cereal, or the chalkboard was dirty.

How did you take care of the mess? Usually, it isn’t as bad as we think it is.
How did you feel knowing there was someone there to guide you and help you?

People who repent are cleaning up messes; but, they aren’t alone. There are people to help them, and the Holy Ghost, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Have you ever played in the dirt and really needed a shower or a bath? Getting clean is like repenting.

Alma 13:11–13 Read together.

11 Therefore they were called after this holy order, and were sanctified, and their garments were washed white through the blood of the Lamb.
12 Now they, after being sanctified by the Holy Ghost, having their garments made white, being pure and spotless before God, could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence; and there were many, exceedingly great many, who were made pure and entered into the rest of the Lord their God.
13 And now, my brethren, I would that ye should humble yourselves before God, and bring forth fruit meet for repentance, that ye may also enter into that rest.

What did Jesus do so that we can become clean from sin? When you are clean, you feel happy and want to do what is right. How do you feel about Jesus for helping you to be clean and happy?

For Teachers:

Live worthy of the Spirit’s guidance. The Spirit is the real teacher. As you seek His guidance and live worthily, He will give you thoughts and impressions about how to meet the needs of the people you teach.
