Alma 10:4
Amulek, Alma’s missionary companion, was a repeatable man.
Alma 10:31 Zeezrom was a rich and sleazy lawyer.
Alma 13:16 Alma issued the invitation of repentance, so that the people could enter into the rest of the Lord.
Alma 15:6 If we believe in the power of God unto salvation, we can be forgiven, healed, and saved, just as Zeezrom was, and as Alma was.
Alma 14:11 If we follow the Son of God, Heavenly Father will receive us up unto glory, no matter what trials we have to go through.
Alma 14:28 Our faith in Jesus Christ will arm us with power to escape the problems that we face.
Alma 13:29 Faith in the Lord also gives us the hope of eternal life.
Alma 13:16 The rest of the Lord is a place of peace for those who look to the Lord in their struggles, repent, and seek to retain a remission of their sins through the endurance of faith.
For kids:
Priesthood power helps me
come closer to Christ.
View pictures of how priesthood power is used. )Gospel Art
Book, nos. 103–110).
Look for ways that Jesus used His power.
Matthew
26:26–28 He blessed the sacrament
Mark 5:22–24, 35–43 He raised the dead.
Alma 13:2 How does priesthood power help us look towards Jesus Christ and strive to become more like Him?
Why did God give us priesthood ordinances?
Alma 13:16 We can look to Jesus for a remission of our sins, so that we can enter into the rest of the Lord.
List of Ordinances: 18.1 and 18.2.
How do the ordinances of the gospel help us to
look forward to Jesus Christ for a remission of our sins, for peace, and for
rest?
Let the class talk about the gratitude they have for the ordinances that they’ve received and/or participated in.
For kids:
Jesus Christ can make me
clean.
How do you get clean after working or playing outside in the
dirt? How do you get a car clean when it has mud splashes on it?
Sin is something that that’s like extra dirt on us that we don’t have to keep.
Because of the atonement of Jesus Christ we can become clean again through
faith in Him.
Repeat the 4th Article of Faith together.
Priesthood ordinances
point me to Jesus Christ for redemption.
Alma 13:1–19
Wonderful truths are contained in this chapter concerning the priesthood power of God and its purpose in the lives of His children.
Alma 13:16 Through the principles of the gospel and the ordinances of the priesthood, Heavenly Father has prepared a way for us to enter into His rest and receive the gift of eternal life.
Write a truth for each verse found in Alma 13:1–19 (see notes below).
Vs 1 The Priesthood is called after the order of the Son of
God.
Doctrine and
Covenants 107:1–4 The Melchizedek Priesthood was previously called
The Holy Priesthood after the Order of the Son of God.
Vs 2 High Priests have been called after this order, to help people look towards Jesus for redemption.
I am grateful for the Priesthood power God has shared with us in order for us to be able to find peace, direction, hope, and joy in this life; and to help us prepare for the gifts of salvation and exaltation in the next.
verse 2; verse 16 Our Heavenly Father has graciously offered to us the ordinances of the Priesthood as a gift to help us look towards Jesus for redemption.
A partial list of ordinances: baptism, confirmation, the sacrament, setting
apart for a calling, a blessing of comfort or healing, a patriarchal blessing,
and temple ordinances.
How has your participation in and reception of
these ordinances blessed your life? How have they pointed you towards Jesus
Christ for faith in your redemption? How does this make you feel?
Why do you believe that Priesthood ordinances are
necessary? Why is it important that we actively seek for reception of His
grace?
The Priesthood and the Savior’s Atoning Power
Doctrine and
Covenants 84:19–22: 19 And
this greater priesthood administereth the
gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of
the knowledge of God.
20 Therefore,
in the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness is manifest.
21 And
without the ordinances thereof, and the authority of the
priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto
men in the flesh;
22 For
without this no man can see the face of God, even
the Father, and live.
The Lord invites me to
enter into His rest.
Alma 13:16 Isn’t it wonderful that the Lord continues to invite us to enter into His rest?
How is the rest of the Lord different from physical rest?
Overcome the World and Find Rest
In times of suffering, we
must trust the Lord.
Because we live in a fallen world, we will all experience hardships, struggles, and trials no matter if we are wicked or righteous. Though our loving Heavenly Father is just, there will be injustices in this world that we must face. All wrongs will be one day righted.
In Alma 14 we can read about how Alma and Amulek responded to tragedy, and one of the reasons God allows bad things to happen to good people. Look to the Spirit for the help you need in facing your own trials and supporting others who are facing trials.
Romans 8:35–39 Nothing can separate us from the Love of God, which we find in Christ Jesus. There is no disaster or trial that will ever irradiate His love for us. The only force that can ever separate us is ourselves by willful choice. He is always with us to help us; and His hand is stretched out still.
1 Peter 4:12–14 If we are willing to accept and move through injustices gracefully, with the Lord’s help, we are becoming ever more like Jesus, who bore the greatest injustices of all. We should be happy if we are persecuted for His sake.
Doctrine and Covenants 122:5–9 Jesus has gone through everything we are going through, and so much infinitely more. Because of His mission this things could not be removed. Think on that. Maybe some of the things we go through are also necessary for our mission. Hold fast to your purpose. God will lead you and comfort you. There are limits to what He will allow others to inflict upon you. Trust in Him and look to His mercy. Don’t fear what men can do. Think celestial. God will reward you eternally for your faith and righteousness.
Be ready always. Teaching moments pass quickly, so take advantage of them when they come up. A tragedy in the world, for example, may be a chance to share principles from Alma 14 about why the Lord sometimes allows the innocent to suffer.

Alma 14:26 Alma and Amulek received strength because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
When has the Lord given you strength because of your faith? How can we be more faithful each day, so that the Lord will be with us always?
For kids:
Jesus Christ can change
hearts.
Alma 15:3–12 How was Zeezrom’s heart changed? Who is Jesus willing to forgive and to bless? Can Jesus forgive and help us all?

Discipleship requires sacrifice.
Some things Amulek gave up to more fully embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ:
Alma 10:4–5
Amulek left behind riches, honor, and associations.
15:16 Amulek forsook his gold, silver, and other precious things for the word of God. He was rejected by his father, his kindred (extended family?), and his friends.
Some things Amulek gained by more fully embracing the gospel of Jesus Christ:
Alma 15:18
Amulek gained a good and trusted lifelong friend in Alma, and also association
with the saints. He had someone to minister to him in His afflictions and he
was strengthened and comforted by the Lord.
16:13–15
Amulek was favored by the Lord to become a powerful and clear teacher who led
others to Christ. He helped to establish the Church more fully.
34:8 He gained a firm and strong testimony and conviction of the Lord Jesus Christ and His role as our Savior. He received this through the power of the Holy Ghost, that the Lord God had spoken that it was true.
What are you willing to sacrifice to be a better disciple of Jesus Christ? Choose one thing now that you can incorporate into your daily life to do better.

Men are called as high priests because of their
exceeding faith and good works—They are to teach the commandments—Through
righteousness they are sanctified and enter into the rest of the
Lord—Melchizedek was one of these—Angels are declaring glad tidings throughout
the land—They will declare the actual coming of Christ. About
82 B.C.
Intro--This entire chapter is so good. High Priests have been called to help bring God's children home. Like Melchizedek, they are publishers of peace and salvation and point us to Jesus Christ. My husband Bob is one of these.
Write a truth for each verse found in Alma 13:1–19
Vs 1 the Lord God ordained priests, after his holy
order, which was after the order of his Son, to teach these things unto the
people.
Vs 2 priests were ordained after the order of his Son, in a manner that thereby the
people might know in what manner to look forward to his Son for redemption.
Vs 3 being called and prepared from the foundation of the world
according to the foreknowledge of
God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works;
Vs 4 they have been called to this holy calling
on account of their faith,
Vs 5 this holy calling being prepared from the
foundation of the world for such as would not harden their hearts, being in and
through the atonement of the Only Begotten Son, who was prepared
Vs 6 being called by this holy calling, and
ordained unto the high priesthood of the holy order of God, to teach his
commandments unto the children of men, that they also might enter into
his rest
Vs 7 This high priesthood being without beginning of days
or end of years, being prepared from eternity to all eternity,
Vs 9 they become high priests forever, after the order of the
Son,
Vs 10 they choosing to repent and work righteousness
rather than to perish;
Vs 11 they were called after this holy order, and
were sanctified, and
their garments were
washed white through the blood of the Lamb.
Vs 12 They could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence; and there were many,
exceedingly great many, who were made pure and entered into the rest of the
Lord their God.
Vs 15 this same Melchizedek to whom Abraham
paid tithes
Vs 16 these ordinances were given after
this manner, that
thereby the people might look forward on the Son of God, it being a type of his order, or it
being his order, and this that they might look forward to him for a remission
of their sins, that they might enter into the rest of the Lord.
Vs 18 Melchizedek having exercised mighty faith,
and received the office of the high priesthood according to the holy order of God, did
preach repentance unto his people. And behold, they did repent; and Melchizedek
did establish peace in the land in his days
Vs 19 none were greater
Vs 27-30 Alma
was also a great high priest. Like Jacob, he was also anxiously engaged in the
Lord's work, to help to bring to pass the happiness, immortality, and eternal
life of mankind.

Alma and Amulek are imprisoned and smitten—The
believers and their holy scriptures are burned by fire—These martyrs are
received by the Lord in glory—The prison walls are rent and fall—Alma and
Amulek are delivered, and their persecutors are slain. About 82–81 B.C.
Vs 10-11 Some things are
so difficult to witness or understand in this life; but, it doesn't mean that
the Lord is not aware of His faithful. He allows peoples the use of their
agency to either bless or condemn them.
Vs 12-13 When we are living
righteousness, the Lord allows us to finish the work that He sends us to do.
Vs 21-22 Throughout history,
when people have held other people hostage and deprived them of their humanity
and most basic human needs; it is those people who actually lose their
humanity, not the ones they inflict with such evil and hatred.

Alma and Amulek go to Sidom and establish a
church—Alma heals Zeezrom, who joins the Church—Many are baptized, and the
Church prospers—Alma and Amulek go to Zarahemla. About 81 B.C.
Vs 6-14 Sidon was
prepared, but Ammonihah definitely was not.

The Lamanites destroy the people of
Ammonihah—Zoram leads the Nephites to victory over the Lamanites—Alma and
Amulek and many others preach the word—They teach that after His Resurrection
Christ will appear to the Nephites. About 81–77 B.C.
Vs 13-21 We are in the same position today. We are trying to invite souls to come unto Christ and to establish His church more fully in the earth. We are seeking to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord, which all nations shall witness together.
