Mormon 8:3, 5 It must
have been overwhelmingly sad to be the very last of the Nephite Nation. “I am
alone. My father hath been slain in battle, and all my kinsfolk, and I have not
friends nor whither to go; and how long the Lord will suffer that I
may live I know not.”
Mormon 8:22 Because
of Moroni’s faith in Jesus Christ, he had hope for the good things yet to come.
“or the eternal purposes of the Lord shall roll on, until all his
promises shall be fulfilled.”
So much of that promised
hope is contained in the Nephi record, called The Book of Mormon, Another
Testament of Jesus Christ. We owe so much to all the keepers and recorders of
that record, and especially to Moroni and his father for safeguarding and
preserving them and writing their final testimonies, before there martyrdom.
Mormon 8:16 The
Book of Mormon has been brought out of darkness into light.
9:36 The restoration is possible
in a great part because of the prayers of these great Nephite brethren who kept
the records.
Mormon 8:35 “Behold,
I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus
Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing.”
9:30 “Behold, I speak unto you
as though I spake from the dead; for I know that ye shall have my
words.”
I believe that all of the
great prophets since Adam until now are still involved in this great work, and
in the restoration and the winding up scenes.
“Believe in
Jesus Christ” and “lay hold upon [His] gospel.”
Mormon 7
Mormon gave his concluding messing in chapter 7.
Mormon 7:8 Mormon recounts the Doctrine of Christ and asks us to lay hold upon His gospel, which is found in The Book of Mormon and the Bible. How do we lay hold upon the gospel of Jesus Christ? We live the principles, receive the ordinances. We learn of Him and teach of Him. We serve and worship Him, and we love and serve one another. We put the principles that He has taught into practice. We become His disciples.
For kids:
The
Book of Mormon and the Bible testify of Jesus Christ.
Mormon
7:8–10
Explain that the Old Testament and New Testament testify of Jesus Christ. A Testament if a testimony. The Book of Mormon is indeed another Testament of Jesus Christ. Then show the class different accounts from the different testaments which testify of Jesus and are a witness to each other and to us that Jesus is the Christ.

The
Book of Mormon is of great worth.
Mormon
7:8–10; 8:12–16; 9:31–37
Along with President Nelson, I know that The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ is of far greater worth than diamonds or rubies.
The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like without It?
Why is The Book of Mormon of
value to us today?
Mormon 7:8–10 The
Book of Mormon teaches the Doctrine of Christ and emphasizes repentance and
baptism, because they are commandments that can transform us through faith in
Jesus Christ.
8:12–22 If we receive the record,
we will also be brought out of darkness into light. The purpose of the book is to
invite all to Come unto Christ, so that we can all lay hold upon the Plan of
Happiness.
9:31–37 We need to look for truth
and not for faults. People who deliver the Lord’s message are still people. Our
gratitude should be to God for providing us light, so that we can see our way.
37 And may the Lord Jesus Christ grant that their prayers may be
answered according to their faith; and may God the Father remember the covenant
which he hath made with the house of Israel; and may he bless them forever,
through faith on the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
1 Nephi 13:38–41: Many
truths in the Bible have been altered and/or lost; the Book of Mormon is
necessary to add a second witness to the Bible and to clarify what is true.
2 Nephi 3:11–12 The
Book of Mormon was written for our day, so that we could have peace in troubled
times and know that the restoration is taking place. Joseph Smith was raised up
to be the seer that would translate the work and help restore truths to the
earth, according to God’s commandments.
Doctrine and Covenants 33:16
“And the Book of Mormon and the holy scriptures are given of me for
your instruction; and the power of my Spirit quickeneth all
things.”
42:12–13 12 And again,
the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the
principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in
the which is the fulness of the gospel.
13 And
they shall observe the covenants and church
articles to do them, and these shall be their teachings, as they
shall be directed by the Spirit.
For kids:
I
can keep the commandments even when I feel alone.
Mormon
8:1–7
There are many people like Moroni who chose to do what was right, even when they felt alone. Are there some people you can think of? Have you ever chose to keep doing right, even when you had to do it alone?
Read Mormon 8:1–7. Can
you imagine how Moroni felt? Have you ever felt that way too?
Even though he was alone, he
did what the Lord asked him to do. He kept the commandments. He kept the
records safe. He recorded the sad ending of the Nephite civilization, a people
he had loved and served; and he buried the record in the earth, so that Joseph
Smith could find it many years later.
What can you do to be more
like Mormon? How can you share your testimony and record what is important,
even if others don’t want to currently hear the truth? How will developing your
faith in Jesus Christ help you, like it helped Moroni?
I
can keep the commandments even when others do not.
Mormon
8:1–11
Mormon 8:1–11 Like
Moroni, we can choose to follow Jesus and be standfast in keeping our covenants
even when others stray from the path. Mormon and Moroni were valiant in their
service, even as their Country was on the brink of destruction. Amid the chaos,
they had visits from angels and great comfort from the Spirit.
How can we remain faithful?

The
Book of Mormon was written for our day.
Mormon
8:26–41; 9:1–30
Mormon 8:34–35 Jesus
revealed to Moroni what our day would be like.
Because of the insights
Moroni received of our day, he provided us with some warnings and guidance.. Pay
attention as you read Mormon 8:26–41 and 9:1–30. Ponder on the messages
that are important to you right now. See
notes below.
How can the Book of Mormon
help with the challenges that Moroni foresaw?
Listen to the Spirit. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings,
even if they seem unrelated to your reading. These impressions may be what your
Heavenly Father wants you to learn. For example, what impressions do you have
after pondering the questions Moroni asks in Mormon 9:1–30?
For kids:
Jesus
Christ is “a God of miracles.”
|Mormon
8:24–26; 9:7–26
What is a miracle? Heavenly Father and Jesus can perform miracles, things that we might not see happen usually, but they do because of our faith, or because They want to bless us or warn us.
Read Mormon 9:11–13, 17 and look for miracles listed.
View pictures: nos. 26, 40, 41, and 83, and discuss them.
How important are ingredients when you are baking cookies? Do we need to follow the recipes? What if we forgot sugar, or put salt instead? What if we forgot eggs?
Read Mormon 8:24 and 9:20–21. What are some ingredients or conditions of faith for miracles? What are some things we should do to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ and to ask God for help, even the help of miracles?
Jesus
Christ is a God of miracles.
Mormon
9:1–25
Will you believe in the day of your visitation? Moroni gave us a powerful witness that miracles do come from God.
Mormon 8:26 The Book of Mormon did come foth out of the earth, like Moroni said, ushering in the Restoration and the Day of Miracles.
9:1, 10–11 God’s power and authority are still the same, and He still is a God of Miracles.
Search Moroni 7:27–29 and Mormon 9:9–11, 15–27and ponder questions such as:
(I did this activity, but I forgot to save it.
- What do I learn about the Savior from these verses? What do I learn about miracles, past and present? What are the benefits of believing that Jesus Christ is a God of miracles? What are the consequences of not believing this?
Because Jesus’s mission is to save us all, miracles have not ceased, nor will they. If we aren’t seeing miracles in our own lives, we should repent and exercise faith in Jesus Christ. When we have faith in Him and cleave unto all that is good, Jesus is advocating for us to His Father. We can even experience the ministering of angels as both Mormon and Moroni did. If we don’t believe, our lack of faith will leave us blind to the goodness of God.
- What miracles—large and small—has the Savior worked in my life? What do these miracles teach me about Him? My first thought of this is Jesus appearing to me at my beside, and I heard with my spiritual hearing, “Thy sins are forgiven thee,” which is the greatest miracle of all. When we are given the gift of Jesus carrying our burdens, we can progress.
Chapter 7 notes are above. See notes below for chapter 9.
President Russell M. Nelson taught: “Our Savior and
Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now
and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father
and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory” (“Revelation
for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives.”)
What miracles are we witnessing? How can we prepare ourselves for them? Will we
notice the Hand of the Lord?

Mormon invites the Lamanites
of the latter days to believe in Christ, accept His gospel, and be saved—All
who believe the Bible will also believe the Book of Mormon.
About A.D. 385.
vs 1-5 Mormon counsel with the Jews and the House of Israel. They need to covenant with God in this day to again be His covenant people are receive His blessings. We need to acknowledge that Jesus is the Christ.
Vs 6-7 Mormon was speaking to the Lamanites who should receive his records and letting them know that all these things are true, and that it is only through Jesus Christ that they can be saved.
Vs 8-10 The need for repentance and baptism is established. When the Lamanites have the records, it will teach them the Doctrine of Christ and that they are part of the first covenant made with the Father and members of the House of Israel.
Those who believe the Bible will also believe the Book of Mormon. The testimony of all the holy prophets is the same: that Jesus came into the world to do the will of His Father, to save the world from sin.

The Lamanites seek out and
destroy the Nephites—The Book of Mormon will come forth by the power of
God—Woes pronounced upon those who breathe out wrath and strife against the
work of the Lord—The Nephite record will come forth in a day of wickedness,
degeneracy, and apostasy. About A.D. 400–421.
Vs 5 Moroni's loneliness must have been great. Yet his was blessed with the companionship of the Holy Ghost and ministering of angels.
Vs 10-11 Even though the three Nephites could no longer dwell amidst this wicked people, they did visit with Mormon and Moroni and did bless them.
Vs 12 If I accept the Book of Mormon as the word of God and don’t mock any imperfection, the Lord will show me greater things. He showed Moroni many more great things.
Vs 13-16 Moroni is the one who hid up the record. The Lord revealed the hiding place to Joseph Smith and it was by the power of God that this latter-day work commenced.
Vs 21-22 The Lord will protect those who safeguard His work in these latter-days, and it will move forward.
Vs 23-26 It is important to remember history. Search Isaiah. Remember the saints that lived on this land in ancient times. The Lord will fulfill His covenants made to them, because of their faith. Remember that your faith can be like their; then, whether in life or death, you shall live!
Remember that the great latter-day work will continue to move forward. The Book of Mormon will continue to hiss forth. Many more will accept the invitation to come unto Christ. Great miracles will happen because of faith, because of the covenant, and become of the promises of the Lord, who is always faithful.

8:26–41. Ponder on the messages
that are important to you right now.
What
is significant is that I be found doing that which is good and right. I need to
stand as a witness of Jesus Christ and invite others to come and exercise faith
in Him, unto repentance and baptism, covenant-making and continued revelation.

1-3 It would be much better for everyone to start believe in Jesus Christ now.
We will have no choice but to believe in Him when He comes in His glory.
Vs
6-9 Invitation to believe in Jesus Christ and to know that God is a God of
miracles.
Search Mormon 9:9–11, 15–27and ponder questions such as:
·
What do I learn about the Savior from these
verses? God is a God of miracles.
vs 11-13 Our God is a God of miracles.
He created all things. He brought to pass both redemption and resurrection.
- What do I learn about miracles, past and present? We need faith to see and understand when there are miracles.
- What
are the benefits of believing that Jesus Christ is a God of miracles? What
are the consequences of not believing this?
Vs 14 We will all stand before God to be judged. Let’s take self-assessments now. - Vs 21 We need to believe in Jesus Christ and pray to the Father in His name. Miracles will be wrought in our behalf. It's promised. “Behold, I say unto you that whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever he shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him; and this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth.”
25 “And whosoever shall believe in my name, doubting nothing, unto him will I confirm all my words, even unto the ends of the earth.”
- What miracles—large and small—has the Savior worked in my life? What do these miracles teach me about Him?
Vs 27-28 Offer much important counsel:
27 O then despise not, and wonder not, but hearken unto the words of the Lord, and ask the Father in the name of Jesus for what things soever ye shall stand in need. Doubt not, but be believing, and begin as in times of old, and come unto the Lord with all your heart, and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling before him.
28 Be wise in
the days of your probation; strip yourselves of all uncleanness; ask not,
that ye may consume it on your lusts, but ask with a firmness unshaken,
that ye will yield to no temptation, but that ye will serve the true and living
God.
Vs 36-37: A look back: 3-13-22 Today our stake is fasting for growth in
testimony in ourselves and in our stake, and in our outreach of gathering
Israel.
