Moroni included three messages that were from his father:

1.      To “the peaceable followers of Christ” (Moroni 7:3)

2.      Two letters from Mormon to Moroni.

Many among the Nephite people had “lost their love, one towards another” and delighted in “everything save that which is good” (Moroni 9:5, 19).

This is so similar to the conditions of today, and for the same reason. People have turned away from Jesus Christ. They’ve turned from light and truth to darkness and error.

Mormon still found reasons to have hope. There definitely is peace in Christ. He needs to be our focus.

‘Hope means having faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, whose power is greater and more everlasting than these problems. It means “lay[ing] hold upon every good thing” (Moroni 7:19). It means letting the Atonement of Jesus Christ “and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind” (Moroni 9:25).’

Moroni 7:19 Keep searching diligently in the Light of Christ, and lay hold on every good thing; and stay away from the unclean things.

“Mormon sees the descent of evil but calls his people to faith, repentance, and hope in Jesus. The peaceable followers of Christ learn how to judge good from evil. The spirit of God enticeth to do good.”

The Light of Christ helps me know truth from error.
Moroni 7:12–20

Because we have been born with the light of Christ, we have the power within us to recognize truth from error; but, this only happens as we embrace truth and shun evil. The Gift of the Holy Ghost will also help us recognize truth and He can warn us of danger and lead us in righteous paths.

Look for truths found in verses 12–20 that will help you recognize and accept truths that come to you as impressions from God. (See notes below.)

Light, Light of Christ

How can we discern and act upon light from God?

Because of Jesus Christ, I can “lay hold upon every good thing.”
Moroni 7:20–48

Moroni 7:20 Is it possible for us to lay hold upon every good thing?

verses 20–48 How do faith in Jesus Christ, hope, and charity help you to find and lay hold upon the goodness that comes from Jesus Christ? How our these attributes essential for disciples of Jesus Christ? (See notes below.)

For kids:

If I have faith in Jesus Christ, I can do whatever He needs me to do.
Moroni 7:33

Talk about figures from the scriptures who accomplished great things. (Look at art nos. 19707881)

How does having faith in Jesus Christ make a difference in our lives?

Moroni 7:33 “And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me.”

What will you do this week to help your faith in Jesus Christ increase?

When has Heavenly Father given you power to do His will?

For kids:

Believing in Jesus Christ can give me hope.
Moroni 7:41

Read together Moroni 7:41 “And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.”

What should we hope for?

I feel hope in Jesus Christ, because He increased my faith and understanding in the power of His atonement and resurrection when Robby joined our family and then went back home to Heavenly Father. I know Heavenly Father and Jesus love me; They love Robby; They love our whole family; and They want us to be together forever.

Let the children write or draw messages to others that can offer them kindness and hope.

“Charity is the pure love of Christ.”
Moroni 7:44–48

How does our faith and hope in Jesus Christ lead us to charity and the desire to develop charity?

What is charity? Can you describe charity? When have you felt charity? How are you a recipient of charity? How does repentance help us to develop charity?

Have you felt the Pure love of Christ from the Spirit and from Him? Have you felt that love from others? Have you felt that love for others?

The Challenge to Become

Am I becoming charitable?

Moroni 7:44–48

“The reason charity never fails and the reason charity is greater than even the most significant acts of goodness … is that charity, ‘the pure love of Christ’ [Moroni 7:47], is not an act but a condition or state of being. … Charity is something one becomes” (President Oaks).

Pure Love: The True Sign of Every True Disciple of Jesus Christ

How will you allow charity to affect your own discipleship?

verse 46 Remember to cleave unto Charity. You can’t do this without cleaving unto Jesus Christ.

Moroni 7:47 Charity is the pure love of Christ. That’s the love He has for us, and the love we are developing for Him and for others.

1 Corinthians 13:1–13 Paul’s writings about charity

Ether 12:33–34 Jesus had such love for us that He laid down His life for us, so that we could all live again. If we don’t have charity, we cannot live with Heavenly Father and Jesus again.

Love One Another

Charity

For kids:

“Charity is the pure love of Christ.”
Moroni 7:45–48

Love One Another

Read Moroni 7:47 “But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.”

Draw pictures that express showing love to others. Have the children share their pictures in their homes to help remind them to show love to others, like Jesus loves us.

How did Jesus show charity?

Luke 23:34 Jesus forgave those who crucified Him; likewise, He forgives us when we do Him wrong.
John 8:1–11 Jesus did not condemn the woman taken in adultery. He did remind the crowd of their own weaknesses. He helps us to recognize where we need to change, and He blesses us with the ability to change through Him.
Ether 12:33–34 Jesus loved us so much that He laid down his life for us, so He can lift us up to heaven through faith in Him, repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring in faith in Him to the end. Staying on the path of discipleship and developing love for everyone is important for us to do so that we can live with Heavenly Father and Jesus again.

What will you do to follow Jesus Christ’s example of love?

For kids:

I can have hope in Jesus Christ, even during difficult trials.
Moroni 7:40–419:25–26

We have hope in Jesus Christ.
(Drop two objects in water: one that floats, and one that sinks.)

What does hope do for us?

Moroni 7:40–41 Hope increases our ability to develop faith. Our hope and faith should be in Jesus Christ who can raise us from the dead and gift us with Eternal Life through the power of His atonement and resurrection.

(The floating object can represent a person who has faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus lifts us up.)

How has Jesus lifted you up when you’ve face a difficult trial or challenge?

How can you keep the Savior, His teachings, and His promises in your minds and hearts forever?

9:25–26

Anger leads to sorrow and suffering.
Moroni 9:3–5

Moroni 7:44–48 These verses describe what happens when we have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him. The Holy Ghost can help us change and become more like Jesus.

Moroni 9:3–5 These verses describe what happens when we put off Christ and choose to be contentious and angry with one another. We lose the Spirit and the capability to repent and progress.

Look for the warnings found in these verses: verses 3–5, 18–20, 23. (See notes below.)

Slow to Anger

I can have hope in Christ regardless of my circumstances.
Moroni 9:25–26

Though they were surrounded by wickedness and were at war, Mormon told Moroni not to grieve.

25 My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up, and may his sufferings and death, and the showing his body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever.

26 And may the grace of God the Father, whose throne is high in the heavens, and our Lord Jesus Christ, who sitteth on the right hand of his power, until all things shall become subject unto him, be, and abide with you forever. Amen.

How does Mormon’s message of hope help you? How does Jesus Christ lift you up? How do you keep His words and His example in your mind and your heart and find rest and assurance in them? How does His atonement for you bring you joy and gratitude?

Joy and Spiritual Survival

An invitation is given to enter into the rest of the Lord—Pray with real intent—The Spirit of Christ enables men to know good from evil—Satan persuades men to deny Christ and do evil—The prophets manifest the coming of Christ—By faith, miracles are wrought and angels minister—Men should hope for eternal life and cleave unto charity. About A.D. 401–21.

Vs 2-3 This entire chapter is incredible. Mormon is speaking to all those who are already Christians, commending them for their peachable walk, encouraging them to be steadfast in recognizing what is good and what if evil, and reminding them of the most important Christian principles of faith, hope, and charity that will sustain them in such a day that he lived in and in such a day as we are in now.

Look for truths found in verses 12–20 that will help you recognize and accept truths that come to you as impressions from God.

13 But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.

16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.

18 And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the light by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ,…

Vs 17-18 Make sure to always be on the Lord's side of things and never uphold evil as if it's something that is good.

19 Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ.

Vs 19 If we search diligently in the Light of Christ, the Spirit will teach us good from evil, and we will be the children of Christ.

verses 20–48 How do faith in Jesus Christ, hope, and charity help you to find and lay hold upon the goodness that comes from Jesus Christ? How our these attributes essential for disciples of Jesus Christ?

Vs 21 I will tell you the way whereby ye may lay hold on every good thing.

Vs 22-23 God had angels proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. He also declared the gospel Himself to His prophets concerning the coming of Christ. He knows all things. We can trust Him.

Vs 24-25 God uses ever means He can to manifest His Son unto us; because, all good things come of Christ.

We have to exercise faith in Jesus Christ in order to lay hold upon every good thing.

Vs 26 We are saved by faith in Jesus's name; and by faith we become the children of God.

The baptism of little children is an evil abomination—Little children are alive in Christ because of the Atonement—Faith, repentance, meekness and lowliness of heart, receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end lead to salvation. About A.D. 401–21.

Vs 2-3 This is a letter from a father to his missionary son.

Vs 4-6 As a missionary of the Lord Jesus Christ, it was important for Moroni to understand that children had no need for baptism. As a zone leader or mission president, he was to teach true doctrine.

Vs 7-9 Mormon gained a knowledge of this doctrine, that children are holy and protected by the atonement of Jesus Christ, through the prayer of faith and the manifestation of the Holy Ghost. The Lord came to Him by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Vs 10-12 Missionaries are to teach repentance and baptism to those who are accountable for their actions. We all should be humble like little children. It is a great comfort to know that baptism is not a requirement for children and that they, through the grace of God, will receive their exaltation if their lives are taken in their young childhood.

Vs 17-20 Jesus Himself said to suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. My mother's cousin Billy quoted this scripture to me in a letter after Robby died. He was a good religious man and understood this doctrine.

I need to check to see if his work is done. He, his wife Jean, and his daughter Shannon are all gone. His sister Pearl is still living.

22 For behold that all little children are alive in Christ, and also all they that are without the law. For the power of redemption cometh on all them that have no law; wherefore, he that is not condemned, or he that is under no condemnation, cannot repent; and unto such baptism availeth nothing—

23 But it is mockery before God, denying the mercies of Christ, and the power of his Holy Spirit, and putting trust in dead works.

Vs 24 Little children should not be baptism; neither should those who have no comprehension beyond that of a little child.

Vs 25-26 Repentance and baptism is full of love and great glory. It is a marvelous gift from our Father to help us gain the Spirit and be able to return to His presence.

Vs 27-28 We have a responsiblity to pray from our Country, its leaders and the citizens, even when they have departed far from the Lord.

Both the Nephites and the Lamanites are depraved and degenerate—They torture and murder each other—Mormon prays that grace and goodness may rest upon Moroni forever. About A.D. 401.

Look for the warnings found in these verses: verses 3–5, 18–20, 23.

Vs 3-5 We need to control our anger. We need to not let Satan stir us up to anger. We need to focus and Jesus and choose a refinement in our emotions as we rely on Him to guide us.

Vs 6 Even to a hardened people, we have a labor to perform: to pray for them, serve them, teach them, invite them to Come to Christ.

Vs 13 We need to delight in righteousness and not embrace the wickedness of this world.

Vs 18 We need to remain a lawful and orderly people. We need to be merciful.

Vs 20 We need to follow the principles and doctrine of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to look to Christ and live. We need the Spirit with us so that we feel and know and follow what is right.

Vs 22-23 Our nation can still be spared if we repent.

Vs 24-26 Mormon blesses his son and buoys him up with the hope that is born of his faith. He reminds him to be faithful in CHrist. He encourages Moroni to write more to help the future readers of the records Come unto Christ. I am thankful for both of their testimonies. They taught pure Christian doctrine.
